Dinner for the Week of October 24
October 20th, 2011 § 1 Comment
I can’t decide what tone to adopt for this final Panacea dinner email. There’s a bit of sadness – it is the end of an era. Two great years of fun in the kitchen with friends, old and new, preparing dinner for you busy people. A bit of excitement – so many recipes that I want to try, so many blog posts I want to write now that I will have more time. A bit of guilt – who will feed you beautiful people? I plan to post recipes for some Panacea favorites in the coming months, to help fill the void that we’re leaving. I’ll post recipes that freeze well or hold well in the fridge, as well as quick and easy weeknight options. For our final dinner, we come full circle – offering the first Panacea dinner we cooked waaay back in the beginning of this delicious experiment.
Dinner for the week of October 24 will be Beef Daube, Roasted Potatoes, and Herby Salad with Sherry Vinaigrette. Daube is a slow-cooked, fragrant, beef stew from Provence. My favorite thing about this dish is that it is laced with citrus – it’s subtle and lovely. My second favorite thing is that it has briny olives. They’re fantastic with the rich, shreddy beef. We’ll serve the stew with potatoes, roasted golden on the inside and fluffy on the inside. A salad of lettuce and herbs like parsley, chive, and tarragon will be a nice, bright accompaniment. Dinner will be $16 per person, plus tax.
Columbia City Bakery
This week from the bakery: Ciabatta, $4.50 per loaf. This bread has a wonderful crust and a moist interior – a fantastic addition to the dinner table. On the sweet side: On the sweet side: Lemon Lavender Cookies, $5.00 for a bag of six. The flavors are très Provençal, oui oui…

Thank you, thank you for the delicious meal tonight! And, for all the wonderful meals on Monday nights for the past 2 years. When I got home from tonight’s catering event, I asked Vincent about dinner. He excitedly said, “Mommy, I ate all my beef!” Music to my ears.
